Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares are through to the Monte Carlo Masters doubles final after beating second seeds Marcelo Melo and Ivan Dodig 6-2 6-4.

The semi-final brought together the top two doubles players in the world and it was Murray who prevailed alongside Brazilian Soares against former number one Melo and his Croatian partner Dodig.

Fourth seeds Murray and Soares broke their opponents twice to race into a 4-0 lead and held their own serve to see out the first set.

Melo and Dodig worked their way into the contest but Murray and Soares crucially forced a break in the ninth game of the second set and served out for the match.

Murray told Sky Sports 3: "We got off to a great start - we were up 4-0 before we even had chance to blink.

"It was going too well but then they started to fight back in the second set and we had a couple of hairy moments on serve that we had to get through.

"But that's doubles and we did really well in the end to get that last point. I'm really excited to be in the final tomorrow."

Murray and Soares will face the winners of the second semi-final between French pair Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut, who beat Andy Murray and Dominic Inglot in the last eight, and Colombian duo Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah.
