Matteo Darmian scored the first goal of his Manchester United career against Crystal Palace on Wednesday night - and it was a well worth the wait.

The Italian defender, who has blown hot and cold since arriving from Torino last summer, hit the ball on the bounce from the edge of the area and watched as it cannoned off the post and into the back of the net.

That was United’s second goal of the night, following Damian Delaney’s own goal in the fourth minute. (Scroll down this page to watch Darmian’s goal).

According to Squawka, Darmian scored his first ever Premier League goal for the Red Devils with his first shot on target.

That’s pretty impressive!

Darmian's best match for United?

Darmian was playing from left-back this evening but has been deployed in the right full-back position by Louis van Gaal for the most part this season.

The defender’s versatility was one of the primary reasons why Van Gaal opted to sign the 26-year-old in a £12 million deal last summer.
