They say that anything can happen at a WWE Live event and tonight proved that as Finn Balor's historic reign as NXT Champion came to an end.

Balor won the title back in June from Kevin Owens and has had numerous high profile title defenses since then.

Shock in Lowell

Following an incredible match with Samoa Joe at NXT Takeover Dallas, Balor left still as the NXT Champion, but that is no longer the case.

At an NXT live event tonight in Lowell, Massachusetts Balor and Joe went at it again for the title - but this time with a different result.

Samoa Joe is now the new NXT Champion after beating Balor in the main event of the show in Lowell.

It brings to an end the longest championship reign in NXT history as Balor reaches day number 292 holding the belt.

Joe winning the NXT Championship on an untelevised NXT live event comes as a big shock for all fans of NXT, but could also change a lot within the WWE.

With the recent debut of Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows on Monday Night RAW and the seemingly imminent takeover by the infamous Bullet Club, could Balor be moving away from the developmental brand?

Balor has been a great ambassador for the NXT brand and he will deservedly go down in their history books, but is he now set for the main roster?

Here comes the Demon

Balor has been linked with a debut on the main roster for some time now and he was expected to arrive at the same time as Anderson and Gallows but now that seems unlikely.

If Balor is heading to the main roster, the question becomes, will he hook up with the other members of the Bullet Club or does he have a different path ahead of him?
