Adam Lallana scores great strike against Newcastle

Liverpool could be forgiven for taking their foot off the gas in the Premier League with little to play for and a huge Europa League semi-final clash with Villareal on Thursday.

However, their first half performance against former manager Rafael Benitez's Newcastle side was as dominant as you'll see this season and Adam Lallana's peach of a strike was a particular highlight.

Jurgen Klopp's men were already ahead after Daniel Sturridge's fine finish in the opening minutes but his England teammate's super left-footed shot from outside the box gave Magpies keeper Karl Darlow no chance.

As you can see from the video below, Lallana fully punished the space Newcastle's midfield had given him with a goal to double the Reds' lead on the half-hour mark.

It hasn't been the return to Anfield Benitez was hoping for as his old side look almost certain to put another nail in the coffin for the relegation doomed Newcastle, who didn't muster a single shot on target after the opening 45 minutes.

Klopp's men clearly haven't been distracted by the news which broke this morning regarding Mamadou Sakho's failed drug test. The centre-back was found to possess a fat-burning substance in a sample he provided during the Europa League round of 16 clash with Manchester United last month.

Liverpool released a statement which revealed the French international has not been suspended from UEFA but will not be selected for the team during the ongoing investigation.

Should Liverpool avoid a Dortmund-esque collapse in the second half they move onto 57 points from their 34 games but will still remain six behind fourth-placed Arsenal.

Will Adam Lallana be in the starting line up for England's opening game of Euro 2016? Let us know in the comments below!
