Enzo Amore and Big Cass don't need to win the Tag Team tournament at Payback

Perhaps the most exciting moment to come from WrestleMania weekend was the main roster debut of one of the most charismatic teams in recent times, as Enzo Amore and Big Cass finally made their way to Monday Night Raw.

The team – who never captured NXT Tag Team gold – got their deserved moment in the limelight when they verbally destroyed The Dudley Boyz upon arrival, and they haven’t let up since.

NXT fans will know what to expect from the talented duo, they’re naturally over with the fans and have a glorious opportunity to compete for the WWE Tag Team Championships. However, it’s the Vaudevillians that need to pick up the win in the final of the tournament this Sunday at Payback.

A win for Aiden English and Simon Gotch will help them take the crucial victory they desperately need to make a statement on the main roster. It’s clear they haven’t made a similar impact to Enzo and Big Cass, however, a win over them would surely get fans talking.

This is exactly what needs to happen, they’re already a huge tag team that are over with the WWE Universe, as are the New Day. But which other team are as big as them? Everyone else in the division is a level or two below them, so this is the opportunity the Vaudevillians need to get into the mix.

Once Payback is over, fans will talk about the team going on to face the New Day. Enzo and Cass seems too obvious as an option right now, and they’re fine without the gold. A victory for the Vaudevillians will be the surprise nobody expects, and a loss will do Enzo and Cass no harm whatsoever. On the other hand, a loss for English and Gotch could be damaging.

The unique thing about Enzo and Cass is that they’re always the most over guys in the room, regardless of whoever else is there with them.

You can’t say that about other tag teams, perhaps the New Day have a case here as they’ve also done some fantastic things. However, for such a long time on NXT, we have seen them remain relevant and popular despite never winning the titles.

Winning this tournament will make no difference to them whatsoever, if they lose, they’ll come back out the next night and still be more over than the Vaudevillians. It will also allow them to create more stories for the future as well while the fan support will continue to grow for them with a surprising loss.

This is also a great opportunity for Enzo and Cass to develop as characters on the main roster. We don’t want them to be known as the team that hits the ring to drop a few jokes and leave without making an impact.

A loss here won’t damage them; it’ll allow them to enter other feuds and build their characters even further so the WWE Universe can connect and relate to them a lot better. At the same time, you don’t want them to win on Sunday because a match with the New Day simply cannot happen anytime soon.

A contest of that stature deserves to take place at a huge event. Fans are already excited for when the two teams eventually enter a feud as the microphone work will be gold. It deserves time and effort, and it’s a SummerSlam-worthy match-up.

For now, they need to be kept apart.

They need to enter a different feud at Payback, and right now the popular decision is to have The Dudley Boyz interfere and cost them the opportunity to become number one contenders.

I believe that’s the right decision because the fans will sympathise with them as they came so close while it also adds more heat on Bubba Ray and D-Von, which is exactly what the WWE will want.

You can’t ask for a bigger feud at this stage; this allows Enzo and Cass to build their characters and have a big match at Extreme Rules, before turning their attentions to the New Day, which needs to happen this summer.

You can’t have them feuding with the New Day already, once the feud is over they’d quickly fall down the ladder again. The WWE need to take their time with this unique combination, as they can create some magic shortly.
