Sadio Mane trolled by Andre Marriner after Southampton v Manchester City

Whoever said referees don't have a sense of humour? Not us, that's for sure...

You're probably well aware by now, but Southampton demolished Manchester City at St Mary's on Sunday afternoon. 

One man in particular stood out for rampant Saints and that was versatile forward Sadio Mane, who netted an impressive hat-trick.

As Ronald Koeman's side eased to a 4-2 victory, Mane was comfortably the best player on the pitch. 

Following the game, then, he picked up the match ball in an attempt to take it home. Referee Andre Marriner, however, had other ideas...

Marriner troll 

As you can see in the video below, the match official decided to take the ball out of Mane's grasp. 

Unsurprisingly, Marriner's actions took the Southampton star by surprise, but the referee duly handed him the ball back. 

Referees are so often criticised for their lack of interaction with players, so you have to respect Marriner for his cheeky troll at Mane.

It was certainly no laughing matter for Manchester City as they were woeful throughout proceedings.

Chilean manager Manuel Pellegrini made a number of changes, of course, but his side will have to be far better this week if they are going to claim their place in the Champions League final.  

The Citizens must overcome Real Madrid in the Bernabeu after securing a 0-0 draw in the first-leg.
