It’s that kind of desire that has endeared the German to Liverpool fans. It’s hard to think of a manager who displays more emotion than him.

Klopp will be pleased with his side’s efforts in the first half. Needing a win to at least advance to extra-time in their Europa League semi-final, the Reds lead thanks to a Bruno own-goal.

Klopp celebrates Dejan Lovren's tackle

Liverpool started the game incredibly well and it looked for all the world that their Spanish opponents would be in for a long night. But, though Klopp’s side have continued to dominate possession, they haven’t been able to find the goal they need to establish a cushion.

Still, the Reds must be wary of Villarreal’s threat on the counter-attack. An away goal will leave Liverpool needing to score at least two more goals.

Whichever team advances will take on either Sevilla or Shaktar Dontesk in the final. The first leg ended 2-2 and the teams can’t be split in the return fixture either, the score currently sitting at 1-1.

Victory in the Europa League will guarantee the winners Champions League football next season.

That probably explains Klopp’s zealous celebration to what was a routine challenge.
