Why the WWE need to push Big Cass as a singles star in the long run

Fans were left worried at WWE Payback when Enzo Amore suffered a concussion in his match against the Vaudevillians, forcing the referee to signal a stop to the contest and it's resulted in the Vaudevillians taking on the New Day at Extreme Rules for the WWE Tag Team Championships.

While it’s unclear how long Enzo will be out of action for, the WWE had a decision to make with his tag team partner, Big Cass. The reason they are so incredibly over with the WWE Universe is because of their natural charisma together; they’re a duo that can achieve great things in the company.

At this stage, having one of them run off as a singles star could harm the other. However, in the case of Big Cass, the injury to Enzo could be a huge blessing in disguise for him. We have seen glimpses of the WWE putting faith in Cass over the last two weeks; he teamed with the New Day last week while coming out to face Chris Jericho this week.

The WWE will now understand that they have a future star on their hands, whether he’s with Enzo or without, but it’s clear that they need to have a contingency plan in place for him; should the time ever come where he can become a massive singles star for the company.

Right now, a push is needed for Big Cass because the longer he sits on the sidelines waiting for Enzo, the more he’s harming his own development. Pushing him without Enzo will make no difference as Enzo will always be over with the fans no matter what.

Various outlets have reported that Vince McMahon is one of many officials who is impressed by Big Cass, mainly because we know Vince loves the traditional WWE look of having big, dominating men who look imposing and Big Cass fits the bill perfectly.

If the WWE can give Big Cass a couple of big feuds under his belt before the return of Enzo, then it’ll bode well for his future as he’ll have the experience of being in singles feuds.

We know tag teams won’t last forever as much as we want them to, so even though they probably won’t split for many years to come, there’s still a chance the WWE could be impressed by Big Cass so much that a singles run simply has to take place.

Enzo has been hurt before on NXT, and Big Cass did a great job of staying on screen, staying relevant and remaining over with the fans. It’s trickier on the main roster because now he has to impress fans on a much larger scale, fans get bored quickly so he needs to switch his game up relatively soon.

There’s always the option of bringing in Carmella earlier than planned, but a solid NXT run looks to be the way they are going with her.

Big Cass may not stay as Big Cass for too long either, there are plans to change his name to Colin Cass, as his current name is too similar to that of Big E. Then you have to consider, is Colin Cass a marketable name compared to Big Cass?

The WWE will look to make a lot of money; they do that with the current merchandise anyway, but can Big Cass ever sell as many shirts as somebody like Roman Reigns? Obviously, if the same amount of merchandise is available, then perhaps he could.

Although the long-term focus is on the tag team division, and the feud with the New Day that looms, Big Cass has the perfect attributes to be the new big man in the company. The likes of The Big Show, Kane and Mark Henry, are fading out, so this provides the likes of Cass and Baron Corbin to step up and fill that void.

He has a great look, incredible charisma – and although there are certain areas of his game that needs work – Big Cass will impress alongside Enzo for a very long time, and could even become a big singles superstar if booked correctly.
