Summer Rae and three other women the WWE could release

With more releases set to take place after Extreme Rules, fans are left wondering which unlucky individuals will receive the dreaded news that their career in the WWE is over.

Names such as Ryback and Adam Rose have already been thrown around, based on their current situations, but a “surprising” female talent is also set to be released from her contract.

Vince McMahon highlighted this in a conference call earlier in the week, suggesting they need to make room for incoming talent and with so many talented women coming up, I believe there are four that are in most danger of being let go by the company.

Alicia Fox has been with the WWE since 2006, competing at OVW and moving up the rankings to team with The Bella Twins, capturing the WWE Diva’s Championship and has even performed at WrestleMania, all before reaching the age of 30.

Although she’s been one of the longest-serving current female stars in the WWE, the company hasn’t backed her as strongly as they have with some of the others. Recently, we’ve seen her be at the side of Nikki and Brie Bella, and it’s clear her identity was lost after being part of a team named after the twin sisters.

Again, we don’t really know what she’s doing whenever she’s on screen because she hasn’t had a solid feud in so long, so it seems like her time with the WWE could be winding down which is a shame. Fox is a great in-ring worker, and we’ve seen during her ‘unhinged’ phase that she can be highly entertaining.

However, with the likes of Sasha Banks, Charlotte and Becky Lynch leading the charge, along with the likes of Asuka and Bayley on NXT – it doesn’t look as if she’ll receive another opportunity at the top again.

She does have the talent, and she could be an asset in helping the newer women adjust to life on the main roster, I'll be surprised if she’s let go over the other three.

Rosa Mendes is another female talent that has been lost in the pack since the day she signed a developmental deal with the WWE, primarily because she’s made little to no impact when it comes to wrestling.

She’s been thrown around from star to star, being forced to manage the likes of Zack Ryder, Primo and Epico and was Fandango’s dance partner. So it’s clear the WWE realise there’s no in-ring future with her, and you can argue that there’s no backstage role for her either considering there are women that are fulfilling those roles perfectly.

We already have Renee Young backstage, we have great announcers, we have brilliant female managers and we obviously have the wrestlers, so I’m finding it difficult to understand why the WWE will want to keep her on their books.

She’s also a new mother; she’d have to seriously consider whether it’s worth being away from her family for so long when she returns, especially when she’d be doing so little on-screen anyway.

I believe the WWE could have done a lot with Summer Rae, she has a great look about her and with the right build she could have been a prominent figure in the women’s division, however, that isn’t the case.

Obviously, there’s work that needs to be done. Although she can talk on the microphone, she needs to improve and her in-ring abilities need work also, but that’s why the WWE Performance Center is there.

She was also limited to managerial roles, dancing with Fandango and siding with Rusev, but she was allowed an opportunity at WrestleMania, which could have been a path in the right direction. I still don’t think the WWE should give up on her just yet, but I won’t be surprised to see her leave considering who else they have on their books.

With Renee, Lana and Maryse now joining Total Divas, the WWE have signalled which sort of blondes they are putting their trust in, and they’re also doing their jobs a lot better.

Tamina is another female star that has added very little value to the women’s division; she has all the tools to be the undisputed monster in the women’s division, but her role as the ‘muscle’ had lost importance years ago.

The WWE have failed to capitalise on her strengths and instead, she’s been used to make other females look better, such as Naomi, Sasha Banks and AJ Lee. With her age also, it’s difficult to see her add anything more to a division stacked with incredible talent when the younger stars are already levels ahead of her.

It’ll be interesting to see whether she’s the one that’s let go, there’s been very little improvement in any area with her, she isn’t featured a lot on television and you can’t make a case for her staying, other than her family ties.

However, there is a family member over on NXT who can carve herself a great career in a similar role, so Tamina leaving the company could be the case.
