WWE should bring back the European Championship

Ok, so two key things to consider here.

Firstly, you may remember earlier in the year, WWE released promo shots on its website showing current WWE superstars with classic WWE titles. One of them featured Rusev wearing, the now defunct, European Championship.

Secondly, a recent caller on the ‘Taz show’ called in to suggest that if Rusev wins the United States Championship, we might see a return of the European Championship.

This is a somewhat intriguing idea and something that has been hinted at before, back in 2014 it was hinted at during Rusev’s last United States Championship reign.

The WWE has more European wrestlers on the roster than ever before.

Cesaro, Sheamus, Rusev, Neville, Paige, Becky Lynch and Finn Balor are just some of the big names on the roster who come from Europe.

These superstars always receive huge ovations when they perform in their home countries. For instance, Paige received huge cheers during her matches on the recent UK dates during the European tour.

So a good way of making the European Championship exciting, if it were to return, would be for it to be regularly defended during the European tours. This is something that occurred frequently back when it was an active title. Englishman William Regal would often hold the title and defend it on the UK tour.

Considering how popular some of the European superstars are, bringing back the title would highlight their European backgrounds and create an interesting dynamic between the European superstars and the American superstars, especially if you had ‘European Champion vs United States Champion’ matches.

Making the championship exclusive to the European tour might also create further excitement by making it completely exclusive to this part of the world. The thought process behind this being; if you want to see the European Championship defended, you need to watch the European tour.

Whatever WWE decide, this move would certainly bring back some nostalgia and make for an interesting divide in the WWE roster.

Considering how many superstars there are now, perhaps some division and new title additions might help more superstars to get a push and become relevant again?
