Sri Lanka seamer Dhammika Prasad is out of this week's first Investec Test against England at Headingley because of a shoulder injury.

Prasad, who bowled the tourists to a series victory with five second-innings wickets at the same venue two years ago, suffered what was at first described as a "niggle" in Sri Lanka's first warm-up match against Essex at Chelmsford.

He sat out the second, drawn against Leicestershire at Grace Road, and at close of play on Sunday Sri Lanka coach Graham Ford confirmed the 32-year-old will not play in Leeds.

"He's not available for the first Test, and it's an ongoing assessment on a daily basis," said Ford.

"I am hoping that we can get him bowling again fairly soon. Then we'll have to build him up and get quite a number of overs bowled in the nets in order to prepare him for potentially the second and third Test."

The second Test follows swiftly, at Chester-le-Street, only four days after the conclusion of the first.
