Raul Meireles became a fan favourite at Liverpool during his first season on Merseyside.

After signing from Porto in 2010, the Portuguese midfielder enjoyed an excellent debut campaign and became renowned not just for his fine performances, but also his flamboyant attitude and incredible beard.

He scored a few fine goals in a Liverpool shirt too, with strikes against Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers particularly memorable.

And now, he’s added another screamer to his collection for current club Fenerbahce.

Picking up the ball some 35-yards out against Sivasspor on Thursday night, Meireles lashed a superb volley past the goalkeeper and into the top-left corner. Watch the strike below.


How Liverpool could have done with a strike like that against Sevilla on Wednesday night.

The Reds took the lead in the Europa League final through a wonderful curling effort from Daniel Sturridge but were unable to build upon their advantage, with Sevilla hitting back with three second-half goals.

Jurgen Klopp's side suffered the most dramatic of capitulations after half-time and defended in embarrassing fashion to lose hope of securing their first piece of European silverware since 2005.

An interesting summer now awaits Liverpool, with Champions League football undoubtedly the target for next term.
