Eric Cantona compares Anthony Martial to Ronaldo

Anthony Martial has won plenty of admirers in his first season at Manchester United.

The 20-year-old sensation scored 17 times over the course of the campaign, including the goal against Everton that took the Red Devils to the FA Cup final, and that kind of form hasn't gone unnoticed by his compatriot Eric Cantona.

Cantona knows what it's like to be at the heart of United's attack. Now, he's been so impressed with Martial that he's made a pretty flattering comparison between the Frenchman and Brazil legend Ronaldo.

Cantona's comparison

"Martial is very mature for his age. I think he's the same kind of player as Ronaldo", he told Sky Sports.

"Of course, Ronaldo is a Brazilian, but he's as strong as him. Martial is skilful, he wants to score goals and he has good vision."

United's number 9 was under huge pressure when he arrived at Old Trafford, largely because of his £36million price tag.

Following Ronaldo

Yet, it doesn't appear to have phased him. Louis van Gaal has often utilised him on the wing instead of his preferred position up front, but he was the club's top scorer this season nonetheless.

He has the chance to follow in Ronaldo's footsteps by making an impact at a major tournament this summer, as part of the France squad that will host Euro 2016.

Ronaldo scored 62 goals in 98 games for his country, but while Martial has a long way to go if he is to emulate that record, he is certainly showing signs that he is capable of becoming world-class.
