Football News

It's safe to say that it's all change at Manchester United. Portuguese tactician Jose Mourinho is set to be announced as the club's new manager in the immediate future and it's likely that there will be a number of incomings and outgoings.

One man that looks set to follow Mourinho to Old Trafford is Sweden captain Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The enigmatic striker, who played his last game for French moneybags Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday, is available on a free transfer and looks destined for Manchester.

It will, of course, prove to be one of the most high-profile deals of the summer and it's one that will completely change the dynamic of the United side. In fact, it appears that the 34-year-old already has his sights on a potential shirt number at the Theatre of Dreams.

According to The Sun, Ibrahimovic is set to replace talented striker Anthony Martial as the club's number nine.

Martial secured the number after arriving from AS Monaco last summer, but it appears that he's set for change. What makes the report even more interesting is the claim that Martial will then land United's prestigious number seven shirt, which could be vacated by struggling winger Memphis Depay.

Memphis struggles

Memphis endured a torrid first season on English soil, failing to establish himself as a key man under Louis van Gaal's regime. It's documented that the Dutch international's long-term future at the club is uncertain, but it remains to be seen as to whether Mourinho will hand him a lifeline.

United fans most definitely won't be giving up on the former PSV man just yet, but it's clear for all to see that he won't be able to rest on his laurels ahead of the new campaign. Hard work is clearly required and Mourinho could yet be the man to help him settle at United.

Summer of change

One thing is for sure, it looks set to be an intriguing summer at Old Trafford. Mourinho hasn't even been confirmed as Van Gaal's successor yet, but a number of elite players have been linked to the club.

The potential signature of Ibrahimovic will get fans of the club extremely excited. He may well be approaching the latter stages of his career, but he's in the form of his life. 38 league goals for the Swede last season well and truly confirms that notion and he mustn't be underestimated.
