Dave Meltzer: WWE could make Dana Brooke the female Roman Reigns

There is understandably a lot of excitement surrounding the current women’s division in the WWE, as there is an abundance of talent just waiting to grab their opportunity with both hands.

The WWE have put a lot of faith in Charlotte; she dethroned Nikki Bella to become the Diva’s Champion, she reigned supreme at WrestleMania to become the Women’s Champion and has also appeared on more consecutive pay-per-views than any woman in WWE history.

Despite all of these accolades so early on her main roster career, it’s a different female athlete the WWE could be pushing to the moon relatively soon.

Dana Brooke has only recently moved up to the main roster, having been out with injury over the final few months of her NXT tenure, before helping Emma on the main roster. Her injury came at an unfortunate time for both women, with many left wondering what will happen with Brooke, but it’s now clear she’s aligning herself with the reigning Women’s Champion.

If rumours are to be believed, then Brooke could be set for a big future in the WWE, with officials said to be very high on her.

Dave Meltzer on the Wrestling Observer Radio noted this week that Brooke is set to be a huge star in the company as the officials love her and that they see her as the female Roman Reigns.

This means that she might not be number two to Charlotte for very long, and it’s only a matter of time before she’s handed a huge opportunity of her own to go out into the ring and show what she’s made of.

She didn’t receive many opportunities on NXT due to injuries. However, she did impress at ringside as a heel and hopefully she’s been working in the Performance Center to improve and show that she can make a good go of carving a successful in-ring career.

Fans will naturally be sceptical about this news, mainly because there is a lot of hatred surrounding Reigns and there’s a chance we may see similar booking to take Brooke to the top.

The bigger worry will be that if this correct, then what becomes of Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch and eventually, Bayley? You can’t have every top female athlete involved in one feud so some of them will have to suffer while others will receive great opportunities.

The question has to be asked, does Brooke deserve such an incredible opportunity to be placed at the top of the pile? We all know Triple H is a huge fan of hers, so that means she’s already in the driving seat when it comes to standing out from the pack, but Triple H is also a fan of the Horsewomen – so it’s a good problem for him to have.

One way of looking at it is that she’s hardly achieved anything to be given this potential opportunity. She’s had a handful of matches and hasn’t captured any gold to suggest she can handle being at the top. Other women won't take too kindly to this either; they’ve been on the main roster for a while trying and for somebody to come in from nowhere and take that opportunity is unheard of.

However, she has a fantastic look about her and is quite strong so she brings something unique to the table. She isn’t the best wrestler so perhaps Banks, Bayley and Lynch are ahead of her, but we need to understand that while they are huge faces and will always be cheered by the WWE Universe, they’re going to need a heel to go up against.

At the minute, there probably aren’t any serious threats to them; Charlotte can’t be in this position forever while nothing came of Lana’s rumoured push either, so perhaps putting all of this faith in Brooke isn’t a bad idea.

Plus, how many of us want to see Eva Marie at the top of the women's division?

We need options in the women’s division; we can’t rely on the same talent to do the business every single week. With options, we get more storylines and her addition should be welcomed as she can help the division grow in a positive way.

She’s a natural heel, and Reigns is receiving nuclear heat too, so maybe the WWE are on to something with this one.
