That, for now, is still uncertain, but the enigmatic forward has today given fans of the Red Devils hope that the deal could take place.

As you can see in the video below, the veteran, who struck a remarkable 38 goals in Ligue 1 last season, eventually stated: "let's see what happens."

It was certainly an amusing, yet coy reaction from Ibrahimovic, but it's one that will give United fans belief that he could become the club's leading striker ahead of the 2016/17 campaign.

Ibrahimovic may not be certain to join the ranks at the Theatre of Dreams, but he's confident that Mourinho is the right man to bring the club back to the top.

He's insisted that he had a great time with him at Inter but claims that he doesn't know whether he will work with him again.

He stated: "I think it’s a great move, you want action you bring in Mourinho. I believe he is the man to bring them back to the top, yes. Wherever he went he won so he knows what he is doing. If you want to win, you bring in Mourinho.

"I had a fantastic time with him at Inter. If I will work with him again, I don’t know, let’s see how things play out."

Schmeichel wants Zlatan

Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel certainly wants to see Ibrahimovic sign for the club this summer.

In fact, the club's former shot-stopper has insisted that the Sweden captain was 'born to play' for United.

He told L'Equipe, as per the Manchester Evening News: "What he does with PSG is incredible. He gives so much credibility and visibility to PSG. This is someone who takes his responsibilities.

"Last summer there were rumours that he would come to Manchester United. I then said that Zlatan was built for the club, he was born to play there.

"It's why Cantona was so strong when he was there, not at Leeds or in all other clubs in France? Why? Because it is Manchester United. In Manchester, there was the freedom given to the players, but also responsibilities.

"We do not care who you are or what you love, we look at what you're doing on the pitch and the influence you have in the club. If you do not respect, you're leaving.

"But you can have any personality. Beckham, Cantona, they could go out and also be at their best. There are hundreds of players who are trying to be a Beckham or Cantona, but do not have the personality, and they fail."
