Apollo Crews reveals he thought his WWE main roster call up was a joke

Several NXT stars made the big step up to the WWE main roster over the WrestleMania 32 weekend, with Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady, Baron Corbin and Apollo Crews all being introduced to the WWE Universe.

Out of all of those stars, Crews has struggled the most to really make his impact - not being given any meaningful storylines on his call-up.

However, the muscle-bound high flyer is still overjoyed with his dream coming true, and has revealed that he thought someone was playing a prank on him when he got the call.

Speaking to Jason Piscia of the State Journal-Register to promote a WWE live event in Illinois, Crews stated that he truly believed someone was playing a prank on him.

“I didn’t find out (it was happening) until the Friday before that,” Crews revealed. “It was April Fools’ (Day). I thought it was a joke."

April Fools

Your biggest dream coming true in an unexpected telephone call on April Fools Day? Yeah, we would definitely be sceptical as well.

Crews went on to add that when he realised that the call was genuine, he burst into tears.

"But when it really hit me and I realized what was going on I just started breaking down crying tears of happiness. It was cool for me because I don’t remember the last time I shed a tear of any kind of emotion. So it was cool just to see my dreams come true. … It’s the most satisfying feeling ever.”

The Struggle

Unfortunately, it is true that Crews has struggled since making the move up to the main roster. He barely had the time to develop a character for himself in NXT before being hand-picked to make the step up and that has hurt him.

At least Baron Corbin has the whole 'Lone Wolf' bad guy thing going for him. At the moment, Apollo is just a good guy who smiles all the time, even while coming to the ring after being beaten up just minutes before.

It seems like Crews is now getting his first real feud in the WWE, with Sheamus being his rival, until the brand split at least. Whatever happens after that is up in the air, but if Crews doesn't show more than just being the happy, smiley guy then his time in the WWE could be very limited.
