Once upon a time, Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres were linking up for Liverpool in the latter stages of the Champions League.

While the furthest the duo reached whilst at Anfield was the semi-finals during the 2007/08 campaign, the pair have both lifted the famous trophy during their career.

However, Torres is on the brink on winning Europe’s elite competition for the second time with his boyhood club Atletico Madrid.

And there his one man that is desperate for him to do so - his former teammate.

Gerrard uploaded a touching message to Torres on Instagram, contained four images of the two players embracing each others whilst in Liverpool red.

His caption read: I hope you achieve your life long dream tonight and become a champions league winner with your home town club . Good luck amigo@fernandotorres #partners #8/9.”

How cute.

Torres has emulated the incredible form he showed at Anfield during the latter stages of this season at Atleti. His 12 goals this campaign has helped his side reach the Champions League final, where they will face their city rivals Real at the San Siro.

While Torres would probably benefit from a few Gerrard through balls in tonight’s encounter, the likes of Antoine Griezmann and Saul Niguez have the ability to create chances for the striker.

He may have left Liverpool in unceremonious circumstances to join Chelsea but it’s obvious that Torres is still loved by some associated with the Reds.
