The lyrics to the Champions League anthem are just awful

The Champions League final is about to kick-off but before it does, millions of fans around the world will be treated to a rendition of the now iconic Champions League anthem.

The very best players in the world dream of lining up, arm-in-arm with their team-mates to listen to the rousing tune before testing their skill against the best that the continent has to offer. It truly is a little moment of history each time the first rousing chord strikes.

Too bad that the lyrics are utter ****, isn't it?

Have you ever listened to, or even read the lyrics to the song before? They're awful. Like really bad. Most of it is just repeating the same phrase over and over again.

According to UEFA, the anthem - which is sung in UEFA's three 'official languages' (whatever the hell that means) is "known to set the hearts of many of the world's top footballers aflutter."

So are you ready to read the words that can melt the hearts of these multi-millionaires? Right, here you go:

What the hell, UEFA?! What are you playing at? Bang a bit of Kanye West on or something; it will be the same rambling nonsense but at least it will sound better.

When Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid walk out for that awe-inspiring moment before kick-off tonight, just remember that while both teams are tearing up, thumping their chests and grabbing on tightly to one another, they're actually whipping themselves into a frenzy over a jazzed up (poorly written) nursery rhyme.

That should take some of the tension out of proceedings.

What song should UEFA play before Champions League games?
