It's yet to be confirmed by the club, but it appears that Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has signed a new one-year deal to stay on at Old Trafford for the 2016/17 season.
Numerous reports have suggested that the former Tottenham man has put pen to paper on a new contract, while United hero Paddy Crerand appeared to announce the deal on MUTV.
That's right, Crerand, as you can see in the video below, insisted that it was good news that Carrick had committed his future to the club, while he admitted that he had been surprised that the contract had gone under the radar.

Well, there's an obvious reason for that: United haven't confirmed that Carrick is staying. Oh, Paddy.
In truth, United may well have already got the deal over the line, but they aren't telling us just yet. Whether Crerand really had just seen reports claiming that the deal was imminent is uncertain at this stage, but the whole debacle was rather humorous.
Carrick contract?
It wasn't so funny for the MUTV presenter, who awkwardly had to remind everyone that there's still no news regarding any deal for the United veteran.
Anyway, you can see the video here:
And here's how United fans reacted on Twitter:
Good news
It's quite clear that Carrick will be involved in United's plans for next season and it's good news for the club. At 35, Carrick may well be approaching the final stages of his career, but you can hardly blame the club for keeping him on for another year.
In all honesty, despite the signings of Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin, Carrick has duly been the club's most consistent performer in the middle of the park.
Things will be different under the Jose Mourinho regime, of course, but the Special One will be well aware that Carrick's influence in the dressing room will only help his cause in the pursuit of success at Old Trafford.
Indeed, The Guardian claim that Mourinho expressed his desire to keep Carrick at the Theatre of Dreams. Now we just have to wait patiently for the official confirmation.
