News broke late on Friday that Zlatan Ibrahimovic is close to joining Manchester United.

The Premier League giants are reportedly close to wrapping up a one-year deal that will reunite Ibrahimovic with Jose Mourinho.

The pair worked together at Inter Milan, of course, and the Swede recently claimed that he “had a fantastic time with him” at the San Siro.

But as United fans get excited at the thought of signing a striker who scored 52 goals last season, there are still some minor details to be sorted through.

Ibrahimovic’s agent, Mino Raiola, wants a sizeable fee for his involvement in the deal, according to The Guardian.

And the paper also report that the move hinges on talks between Ibrahimovic and Mourinho. The 34-year-old apparently wants reassurance from the Portuguese that he will play an important role for United next season.

Having just won his 13th league title in 15 years, Ibrahimovic has no interest in sitting on the bench.

His demand is likely to be met. Although Marcus Rashford has shown signs of becoming a terrific striker, you don’t sign Ibrahimovic for him to be a backup player.

A salary of £220,000-a-week is said to have been agreed but United will have to wait until early next week for the deal to be finalised. That is because Raiola is currently in France.

Ibrahimovic finished his final season with Paris Saint-Germain by winning a domestic treble. Having won titles in the Netherlands, Italy, Spain and France, his task is to now deliver a championship to a team that hasn’t finished higher than fourth in its past three seasons.

The Mourinho era has gotten off to a flyer.
