Leicester City identify replacement for Arsenal-bound Jamie Vardy

Leicester City are bracing themselves for the imminent departure of Jamie Vardy by planning a shopping trip.

The England international looks set to join Arsenal in a surprise move that will leave the Foxes without the man who helped fire them to Premier League glory.

It’s a big blow for Claudio Ranieri. Having achieved something nobody - besides the ridiculous few who played a bet at odds of 5,000/1 - thought possible this time last year, it’s a shame that the team that achieved something heroic is about to be dismantled.

If Vardy leaves, after vowing to stay just last month, it could pave the way for Riyad Mahrez and N’Golo Kante to leave the King Power Stadium too.

Ranieri today admitted “it’s all true” when asked about the rumours, and now the Italian must prepare to bring in a replacement or else next season could be a struggle.

The Sun claim Leicester want to replace Vardy, who scored 24 goals last season, with Sporting Lisbon hitman Islam Slimani.

The Algerian would cost the Premier League champions £11 million but if he can replicate this season’s goals, then Leicester won’t miss Vardy at all.

Slimani netted 27 times as Sporting narrowly missed out on the Portuguese title.

His coach, Jorge Jesus, told that Slimani would score “double the goals Vardy does.”

In that case, what are you waiting for, Claudio? Pick up the phone!
