Lakers schedule workout with top NBA draft prospect for this Thursday

As was confirmed during last month's NBA draft lottery, the Los Angeles Lakers will have the second overall pick at the 2016 NBA Draft on June 23.

Now, with under three weeks to go until Adam Silver will stand on the stage at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn and announce their pick, it looks like the famous franchise are stepping up their preparations.

That's after Bleacher Report senior writer Kevin Ding revealed that they have scheduled a workout with top draft prospect Brandon Ingram for this coming Thursday.

Ingram is one of the best prospects in this year's draft class and, alongside LSU product Ben Simmons, is widely considered to be one of only two players that could be taken with the first overall pick by the Philadelphia 76ers.

Should he still be available when the Lakers are on the clock, it would be a huge shock if the Western Conference franchise opted not to select him.

Nevertheless, they would be foolish not to do their due diligence and that is exactly what they will get the chance to do this week, if the report is proved accurate.

The workout will give the Lakers an opportunity to see the North Carolina small forward put through several drills and tests as well as assess if he is a fit personality wise.

Touted as a perfect fit as the Lakers look to fill the void left behind by Kobe Bryant at the SF position, Ingram averaged 17.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per game in his one season with the Tar Heels. He also shot over 40 percent from three-point range.
