“Anyone who can do better than France this summer will do very well.

"When you talk about world-class players, France have got Griezmann, Pogba, they’ve got Kante from Leicester, who’s probably the best central midfielder.”

England might not be able to boast that sort of class just yet, but Dyer is optimistic about their future chances, even if this year's tournament might have come a little early for Roy Hodgson's young squad.

“If you take out Rooney and Milner, it’s the team we’ll take to the World Cup in two years.

"They’re fearless and we’ll do well but I’m more looking forward to two years’ time.”

France the favourites

France are being widely tipped as favourites for the Euros, which get underway this weekend.

World Cup winners Germany can't be written off, while Spain and Belgium are also likely to be in contention.

But Dyer, and most of Europe it seems, are hotly anticipating a run to the final from the host nation, giving them the chance to showcase some incredible talents along the way.

Kieron Dyer met England fans at The Three Lions pub in Newcastle as part of Carlsberg’s ‘Pubstitutions' campaign. Carlsberg will be substituting pub names and renaming them ‘The Three Lions’ across England in the build-up to UEFA EURO 2016™.
