Rain frustrates England at Lord's

Rain prevented any play before lunch on day four of the third Investec Test between England and Sri Lanka at Lord's.

England, who closed on 109 for four the previous evening, are bidding for a 3-0 series whitewash.

They lead by 237 runs but have yet to discover whether captain Alastair Cook will be able to bat in their second innings as he recovers from a bruised left knee.

Cook was hit while fielding at silly mid-off on Saturday morning and was not therefore available to open the innings after tea.

The England and Wales Cricket Board reported Cook's injury has "improved significantly" overnight, however.

Bad weather bought him, if not England's victory prospects, a little extra time.

An early lunch was announced to be taken at 12.30pm - with the Lord's square under full cover, puddles being mopped up and rain still falling at noon.
