England's hopes of a 3-0 Investec series whitewash of Sri Lanka receded at Lord's as rain prevented a prompt start on the final day.

All results were possible in this third Test, with Sri Lanka set a ground-record 362 to win and reduce their margin of series defeat to 2-1 and England needing all 10 wickets.

The tourists reached 32 without loss the previous evening, with a scheduled 98 overs still to be bowled.

But forecast bad weather showed its hand early, and the square was still under full cover at 1130 - with an early lunch already highly likely.
