Pepe slammed on Twitter for terrible scissor-kick challenge against Iceland

Pepe is without a shadow of a doubt one of football’s most controversial and despised individuals.

The Real Madrid centre-back has built a somewhat unwanted reputation for being a dirty player who hates being given a taste of his own medicine.

During last month’s Champions League final, for example, Pepe was often seen flying into dangerous tackles one minute and rolling around theatrically the next, claiming to have been elbowed in the face.

You would expect better from a player now regarded as a veteran of the game, but that’s not the case.

Well, he now finds himself being hated on once again following a scissor-kick challenge during Portugal’s Euro 2016 clash with Iceland (see below).

Safe to say Twitter users - including Gary Lineker and Dietmar Hamann - were far from impressed. Here’s a collection of the best tweets.

It's hard to defend Pepe who continues to get away with these kinds of challenges.

Nevertheless, Portugal were held to a draw by Iceland in what is arguably the biggest shock of Euro 2016 so far.

Ex-Manchester United winger Nani opened the scoring in the first half with a tidy finish following some neat build-up play, before Birkir Bjarnason struck a 50th-minute equaliser.

Portugal were heavy favourites heading into the clash but were unable to break a tight Iceland defence, despite Cristiano Ronaldo's countless efforts at goal.

They face Austria - who lost to Hungry on the same night - on Saturday in what should be an interesting encounter.
