When Liverpool announced the signing of Loris Karius, Kopites were doubly happy.

Not only had the secured the signature of a talented 22-year-old goalkeeper, but it also meant that Simon Mignolet wasn’t guaranteed to start in goal next season.

Mignolet has suffered a difficult three campaigns at Anfield making a series of mistakes and failing to win over the supporters since his £9 million move from Sunderland in 2013.

However, those fans that were dreaming of Karius starting between the sticks at the beginning of next season have been dealt a major blow.

That’s because reports suggest that Karius has been named in Germany’s Olympics squad, meaning he is set to miss the start of the season.

Instead of being pleased with one of their new signings making the Olympics, they realise that means Mignolet will be starting in goal for them.

The reaction has been quite brilliant. Here are some of the best tweets:

To make matters worse, Liverpool face Arsenal (A), Burnley (H), Tottenham (A), Leicester (H) and Chelsea (A) in their opening five fixtures.

They fear that a few Mignolet mistakes could see them playing catch up before Karius returns from Brazil.

It’s still unclear as to who Jurgen Klopp will consider Liverpool’s number 1 next campaign. Karius arrives with a fantastic reputation after being voted the second-best goalkeeper in the Bundesliga - behind Manuel Neuer.

While it’s unclear how Klopp will favour as the Liverpool ‘keeper, it’s pretty obvious as to who the fans want guarding their net.
