Will Grigg fails to get off the bench vs Germany: Twitter reacts

'Will Grigg's on fire, your defence is terrified'. Yeah, we know you've heard it. In fact, we're pretty sure you've sung it. It's brilliant and one Wigan Athletic supporter deserves so much credit for the terrific song.

The lyrics were duly created, of course, after Will Grigg produced a remarkable season in League One for Wigan.

Indeed, Grigg shared the Golden Boot award with Swindon Town's Nicky Ajose after racking up 24 league goals.

Grigg really was on fire. As you will be well aware, then, the song has been heard all over France throughout the course of Euro 2016.

England and Wales fans have also taken to the tune, but the Northern Ireland faithful have been fairly relentless in voicing it. We're certainly not complaining as it has lit up the prestigious tournament.

Grigg hasn't played

But there's one small issue...

The Northern Ireland striker has not been on fire in France. There's a reason for that, of course; he's yet to play a single minute.

Today represented Northern Ireland's third and final game in Group C as they took on world champions Germany in France.

Grigg had to settle for a place on the bench once again and would have been desperate to make an appearance.

In all honesty, with Northern Ireland trailing just 1-0, there appeared to be a realistic chance that we would finally see Grigg in action. That, unfortunately, did not happen. Northern Ireland manager Michael O'Neill failed to give him a chance to 'fire'.

Northern Ireland went on to lose the game 1-0, but we will never know whether Grigg could have made an impact.

There's still a chance we could still see Grigg in the competition - Northern Ireland could progress to the knockout stages as one of the best third-place teams - and it's safe to say that fans would absolutely erupt if it finally happened.

While hope of seeing Grigg in France continues to fade, fans on Twitter just couldn't control themselves.
