Belgium’s Euro 2016 was in a precarious position during their match against Sweden.

A defeat would have seen the Belgians finish bottom of the group after Ireland managed to beat Italy 1-0.

So, with the scores level at 0-0 with just five minutes remaining, it was extremely nervy. They were thanking their lucky stars when Zlatan Ibrahimovic volley home but was wrongly adjudged to be offside with 20 minutes remaining.

But with just five minutes left on the clock, Radja Nainggolan made sure Marc Wilmot’s side would be progressing in second place with an absolute belter.

Eden Hazard picked out the Roma midfielder who took a touch and smashed the ball into the corner past Andreas Isaksson. Take a look at the brilliant strike below:

The win means they meet Hungary on Sunday night in Toulouse and have been handed an attractive looking route to the final.

If Belgium can beat Hungary, they will face Wales or Northern Ireland in the quarter-finals, and then Croatia, Portugal, Switzerland or Poland in the semi-finals.

The Belgium camp is certainly a happier place now than it was after their 2-0 defeat to Italy in their opening fixture. That loss left the Belgians fearing for their Euro 2016 campaign but two wins - 3-0 against Ireland and 1-0 against Sweden - has sent them through in second and handed them a very favourable draw.

Maybe this is the year that this so-called golden generation fulfils its potential.

While Belgium were celebrating their win against Sweden, Ibrahimovic was retiring from international football.

The 34-year-old played his 116th and final appearance for the Swedes and is now expected to join Manchester United following his premature exit.
