Chelsea appear to have won the race to sign Marseille’s highly-rated Belgian forward Michy Batshuayi.

This is according to the Guardian, who understand the 22-year-old will become Antonio Conte’s first signing as the Blues’ manager.

Chelsea will pay an initial fee of £33.2 million for Batshuayi, who has rejected a transfer to Crystal Palace in favour of a move to Stamford Bridge.

Batshuayi is currently on international duty with Belgium at Euro 2016 - he scored in his country’s 4-0 win over Hungary on Sunday - but is expected to be granted special dispensation to leave the squad in order to undergo a medical and put pen to paper on a five-year contract with Chelsea.

After that, Belgium head coach Marc Wilmots will expect the young striker to be fully focused on Friday night’s Euro 2016 quarter-final against Wales at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy in Villeneuve-d'Ascq.

Huge coup for Chelsea

The signing of Batshuayi is a major coup for Chelsea; the forward, who joined Marseille from Standard Liege in 2014, is widely regarded as one of the most exciting youngsters in Europe.

He scored 17 goals in 36 appearances for Marseille during the 2015-16 campaign and bagged six more in other competitions - taking his overall tally to 23 goals in 50 appearances.

Batshuayi will become the most expensive sale in Marseille’s history, although Standard Liege are reportedly due 35 per cent of the transfer fee due to a previous clause.

The Guardian state that Chelsea could still move for Alvaro Morata, who is returning to Real Madrid after the Spanish giants activated his buy-back clause from Juventus.

However, the Blues are now unlikely to follow-up their interest in Batshuayi’s international teammate Romelu Lukaku.

The arrival of Batshuayi is likely to leave question marks over the future of Diego Costa, who could return to Atletico Madrid this summer.
