Cristiano Ronaldo shocked everyone when he aimed controversial comments towards the Icelandic national team following their 1-1 draw with Portugal.

The Real Madrid superstar was obviously frustrated at his inability to score against a country with a population of just 330,000 and he let his anger boil over during an interview after the match.

Despite Iceland having just achieved one of the greatest results in their history, Ronaldo blasted their “small mentality” in a bitter rant.

“Iceland didn’t try anything,” moaned the Portuguese captain.

“They were just defend, defend, defend and playing on the counterattack. It was a lucky night for them. We should have three points but we are OK. I thought they’d won the Euros the way they celebrated at the end. It was unbelievable.

“When they don’t try to play and just defend, defend, defend, this in my opinion shows a small mentality and they are not going to do anything in the competition.”

Ronaldo’s comments are looking sillier and sillier by the day. While his Portuguese side have reached the semi-final without winning a match in 90 minutes, Iceland, not only finished above them in their group, but beat England to reach the quarter-finals.

The nation that are “not going to do anything in the competition” now face hosts France for a place in the last-four.

While the public heavily criticised the forward for his remarks, what did Iceland fans think of it?

Well, watch the video - created by Goal - below to find out.

There you go. Some - one fan in particular - clearly didn’t enjoy Ronaldo’s remarks.

But they could, just maybe, get the ultimate revenge. Could you imagine if Iceland were to beat Ronaldo’s Portugal in the final? Now, wouldn’t that be poetic justice.
