Jose Mourinho interested in signing Will Hughes

With Jose Mourinho arriving at Manchester United, the Red Devils have been linked with some high-profile signings.

Eric Bailly has already arrived for £30 million, Zlatan Ibrahimovic has joined a free transfer while it just appears to be a matter of time before Henrikh Mkhitaryan becomes the third signing.

If that wasn’t enough, Mourinho appears hellbent on adding Paul Pogba to his ranks as the Portuguese boss shows no signs of slowing down.

However, there’s a small problem with the four aforementioned players - they’re not English.

Therefore, the Special One is interested in signing an English midfield. No, it’s not any of the midfielders that were embarrassed by Iceland at Euro 2016 - in fact, this player has never actually played for the national side.

That’s because The Sun claim Mourinho is after Derby’s Will Hughes. The 21-year-old has been tipped to become a top quality player for many years but a serious knee-ligament injury kept him out for six months last season.

But Mourinho clearly rates him and the club have asked to be kept informed about his progress at the iPro Stadium in the coming months. They believe that Hughes can instantly be involved in the first-team - mainly on the periphery - but they think he could become a regular in the starting XI in the future.

It’s reported that Derby would ask for £7 million for Hughes and the Rams are considering offering him a new deal with his contract expiring in two years.

The signing of Hughes may not be as exciting as the likes of Ibrahimovic and Mkhitaryan but Mourinho has idenitified the need to sign English talent and Hughes and been tipped to have an incredibly promising future.

A deal may not be struck this summer, but it’s one that Mourinho will no doubt keep his eye on.

Today marks Mourinho’s first official day at Manchester United and he announced his arrival on Instagram telling his followers: “I am here/UNITED we can,” accompanied with a video of him disembarking a train from London to Manchester.
