France international Paul Pogba has admitted that watching Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon cry made him feel 'very bad'.

Pogba, 23, watched on in front of the television on Saturday night as Germany secured their place in the semi-final of Euro 2016 thanks to a penalty shootout victory over Italy.

The midfielder, of course, played a key role for France as they overcame Iceland by five goals to two during their quarter-final tie on Sunday night.

Pogba scored a fine goal for his country to set up a mammoth last four showdown against Germany on Thursday at the Stade Velodrome.

Following the game, though, Pogba, despite admitting that he was very happy to help his side secure a place in the next round, revealed how he felt as he watched his Juventus teammate Buffon crash out of the competition.

Pogba speaks out

The robust midfielder insisted that Buffon gave all he could and insisted that Italy produced a fine display against Germany.

"I am very happy to be in the semi-final, I cannot moan. I am so happy for this," the midfielder said, as per

"A semi-final is a semi-final, Italy and Germany are equally tough.

"But to see Gigi crying made me feel very bad sitting in front of the television.

"He is a great goalkeeper, he gave his best and so did the team. They produced a very good performance, but this is football."

Pogba pursuit

But will Pogba and Buffon star alongside each other in the same team next season? Well, if recent reports are to be believed, there's every chance that the Frenchman will return to Manchester United before the close of the transfer window.

Pogba departed Old Trafford back in 2012 but could now return in what would prove a mega transfer. The midfielder is recognised as one of the best in world football and could move for as much as £80 million.

It would certainly prove to be a remarkable coup for United boss Jose Mourinho, who appears to be intent on changing the dynamic of his side in the immediate future.

The Special One has already secured the services of Eric Bailly and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, while he's expected to complete a deal to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the coming days.
