Carmelo Anthony demands change after recent tragedies in America

Let alone the world of the NBA, planet earth as a whole is mourning the recent tragedies in America.

Two recent shootings in the States have rocked the nation and brought racial tensions to the forefront once again.

There were separate incidents involving two black men who were shot by police, seemingly unarmed in the same week. Then on Thursday of that same week, five police officers were killed and seven others were wounded in downtown Dallas following a sniper attack.

It would appear as though those attacks were in response to the attacks earlier in the week and it's causing a divide between law enforcement around the U.S and the African-American community.

Several celebrities and NBA stars, including LeBron James, have pleaded for the violence to stop. The hashtag #AllLivesMatter has taken off on Twitter and New York Knicks superstar Carmelo Anthony has taken to Instagram to suggest that changes are needed to prevent these travesties from happening again.

He wants change, and the small forward believes that political repercussions are forthcoming unless something drastic is done.

Anthony posted on Friday to Instagram and Twitter that he and others need to take advantage of this moment: "There's NO more sitting back and being afraid of tackling and addressing political issues anymore. Those days are long gone. We have to step up and take charge."

Anthony is only saying what a lot of the world is thinking. The fact that footage of these deaths have been made so readily available makes the situation all the more volatile.

Hopefully, these NBA stars can use their influence amongst the masses and their status to help put these problems to bed. America needs to move on as a country and justice needs to be served.
