Football News

Brendan Rodgers' managerial reign at Scottish outfit Celtic has started in disastrous fashion as he watched on as his side were beaten in the Champions League second qualifying round at the hands of Lincoln Red Imps from Gibraltar.

It's arguably one the worst results in the club's history and they will now have to overturn the scoreline at Celtic Park next week.

Lincoln Red Imps, who are part-time and share a 5,000 seater stadium, secured their greatest ever result thanks to a goal from Lee Casciaro moments after half-time.

Efe Ambrose must take a great deal of the blame for the goal after being turned inside out by Casciaro.

Incredibly, Celtic, despite hitting the woodwork, failed to respond and have now been absolutely slammed on social media.

Outrageous result

The game, of course, represented Rodgers' first fixture in charge of the Scottish champions and he has been duly destroyed.

As mentioned, Celtic still have a shot at redemption when they take on the minnows in the return leg next week, but this result will live long in the memory of Rodgers and the club's adoring faithful.

It's fair to say that if Celtic fail to overcome Lincoln Red Imps next week, then there really may be no way back for their new manager. It may be extremely early on in his tenure, but would he really be able to recover? Probably not.
