Diego Maradona reveals intense hatred of The Simpsons

Diego Maradona has found a new way to shock fans after going on the offensive against the seemingly inoffensive US animated favourite The Simpsons.

The World Cup winner is no stranger to confrontation, having clashed with many notable figures through his career to date – Pele, being an obvious one.

But, until now, Maradona’s ire had been directed solely at people living in the real world.

That is no longer the case though, after the 55-year-old was recorded, on camera, criticising The Simpsons as part of a wider diatribe against the state of modern television.

"I hate them, I just can't watch them,” he reportedly said, in quotes translated by The Mirror.

According to the report, the comments did not go unnoticed either, with one of the voice actors behind the Latin American version of the animated show hitting out at Maradona.

Humberto Velez has been voicing the part of Homer Simpson for around 15 years now and did not take kindly to the Argentine’s criticism of what remains the most popular animated show in the history of television.

Describing the Albiceleste favourite as “big-titted fat guy” who was “frankly stupid”, Velez didn’t exactly hold back in his scathing assessment of El Diego.

"He must have been somewhat more useless than me because he says purely idiotic things," he added.

Now in its 28th season, The Simpsons may not be as critically revered as it was in the early 1990s but it is unlikely to be going anywhere anytime soon.

Maybe Maradona should try watching Family Guy or South Park instead – that humour might just appeal to him a little bit more.
