Christian Benteke could be set to remain with Liverpool this summer after the Belgian was reportedly priced out of a move to one of their Premier League rivals.

The Mirror is reporting that potential suitors West Ham and Crystal Palace have been put off a move for the 25-year-old, after Liverpool slapped a £32.5m price tag on the out-of-sorts striker.

According to John Cross, Liverpool are keen to recoup the fee they paid Aston Villa for the Belgium international, who has struggled for form at Anfield.

With both Premier League sides put off by such a significant fee, Benteke is now thought to be preparing for another season on Merseyside and focused on forcing his way into Jurgen Klopp’s first team plans.

Benteke scored 10 goals in 42 appearances for Liverpool last season, having previously netted 49 goals in 101 games for Aston Villa during a three-season stay in the Midlands.

Competition for starting places in the Reds team remains fierce though, with Roberto Firmino, Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge all seemingly ahead of Benteke in the pecking order.

Danny Ings is also on the comeback trail, following a long-term injury layoff, and the signing of Sadio Mane from Southampton has only worsened the situation for a striker short on confidence.

Benteke was part of the Belgium squad that reached the quarter-finals of Euro 2016, but failed to find the net with Everton forward Romelu Lukaku preferred in the lone striker role by national team manager Marc Wilmots.

The former Villa favourite now faces an uncertain future on the fringes of the Liverpool squad, unless an improved offer comes in from elsewhere.
