Options for Adkins

Defender Izzy Iriekpen is in contention to return for Scunthorpe against Carlisle as boss Nigel Adkins must decide whether to tinker with the side which thrashed Brighton 4-1 last weekend.

Iriekpen recently overcame a groin injury but has his work cut out to displace David Mirfin and Krystian Pearce in central defence after the duo forged a productive partnership at the Withdean last time out.

Joe Wilcox and Andy Crosby have both stepped up their rehabilitation from knee injuries this week, although the game against second-place Carlisle is likely to come too soon for the defensive pair.

Gary Hooper scored a hat-trick against the Seagulls to take his tally to six goals this season and the former Southend striker will be hoping to extend his purple patch in front of goal this weekend. Long-term absentee Kenny Milne (knee) remains sidelined.

Carlisle captain Paul Thirlwell has been passed fit but striker Michael Bridges will miss out after suffering a hamstring strain.

The news will come as a big blow to the former Leeds and Sunderland man after he had just regained full fitness following his summer loan move from Premier League new-boys Hull.

But boss John Ward revealed the 30-year-old incurred a hamstring injury during the reserves' 2-2 draw at Morecambe on Wednesday and will not be fit to take his place on the Cumbrians` bench against the Iron.

"It is a great shame, because we had got him to a point where he was feeling better and stronger," said Ward. "This is a setback for Michael and the team."

However, Thirlwell has shaken off a foot injury and striker Scott Dobie came through the reserve game unscathed.
