Indeed, after striking an impressive 20 goals from 26 Premier League games during the 2014/15 season, the former Atletico Madrid man struck on just 12 occasions in the league last term.

In all honesty, Costa appeared to be more focused on fighting with the opposition rather than scoring goals for his side.

Costa future

It appears, though, that he's determined to once again prove his credentials in west London.

With Antonio Conte now at the helm, it's all change at Chelsea, but it seems that Costa will still be looking to battle it out for a place in his starting XI.

Atletico president Enrique Cerezo recently hinted, however, that he would be interested in bringing Costa back to the club.

"Costa played for us for a few years and he's a really good player, no one can deny that,” Cerezo said last week, per Goal.

“I don't know if Costa has spoken to Conte, but we're working hard bring the best players to Atleti.”

Conte signings

Conte clearly has a decision to make over the future of Costa, but he has quickly got to work at the Premier League club.

The former Italy boss recruited exciting striker Michy Batshuayi from Marseille for £33 million, while he also secured the services of N'Golo Kante from Leicester City for a large sum.

Batshuayi and Kante should represent fine coups for Chelsea, who will be will be determined to secure success this season after last term's dismal showing.
