Pilgrims climb off the bottom

Plymouth, who started the night bottom, surged up the Championship table by claiming their first victory of the season winning 2-1 at Watford.

Karl Duguid (30) fired the struggling Pilgrims ahead from 20 yards and Luke Summerfield added a second from the penalty spot (72). John-Joe O'Toole (83) found the net for the Hornets but it was just a consolation in a 2-1 defeat for Adrian Boothroyd's side.

Charlton's recent mini-slump came to an end at the Keepmoat Stadium as they somehow got the better of Doncaster with a 1-0 win.

Alan Pardew's men had slipped to defeats against Preston and Wolves in their last two outings and came into this clash under some scrutiny.

But they emerged victorious courtesy of Andy Gray's fourth goal of the season early in the first half, although they were fortunate to hold on in the face of some intense Doncaster pressure for most of the game.

Martin Paterson's brilliant individual strike and Graham Alexander's third goal in two games gave Burnley a deserved 2-0 victory over Lancashire rivals Blackpool.

Paterson, a £1.3million summer signing from Scunthorpe, cut inside from the right flank and curled a delightful low shot into the far corner from 20 yards to open the scoring on the hour mark.

Alexander added a second from the penalty spot with 15 minutes remaining to add to his double in Saturday's 2-1 win at Nottingham Forest.
