Demba Ba suffered one of the worst leg breaks you'll ever likely see during Shanghai Shenhua's 2-1 victory on Sunday.

In the aftermath of a clumsy but inoccuous challenge from Shanghai SIPG captain Sun Xiang just after the hour mark, the former Newcastle United and Chelsea striker's left leg became tangled with his opponent's and snapped.

Scroll down for a video of the incident, but be warned, it's of a graphic nature.

Ba now faces an excrutiating eight months out after what could be a career-ending injury.

Various details have since emerged of what happened following his leg break, but one that fans will undoubtedly like to hear most is what Ba's first words were upon waking up in hospital.

The 31-year-old was given general anaesthesia and when he finally awoke from a four-hour slumbre, he brilliantly said: "Did we win?"

Assuming Ba was in pain, one would have expected the Senegalese to either wake up shouting or yell a few expletives, but no, his instant thought was whether his teammates secured three points.

Thankfully, they did.

Pictures have also emerged of the scan carried out on his leg (see below).

Shanghai Shenhua boss Gregorio Manzano has since commented on Ba's injury and claimed he will receive “the best medical treatment” available.

He also added: "It could end Ba’s professional career. I would rather lose the game than lose Ba. God is unfair. Ba is too good to have this happened to him."

It's claimed Xiang visited Ba - who is the Chinese Super League's top goalscorer with 14 strikes - in hospital following his devastating leg break.
