Emile Heskey believes England manager Fabio Capello's up front and honest approach is refreshing after showing he does not select on the basis of reputations.

The Wigan striker returned to the England fold last week, playing a vital role in the 4-1 World Cup qualifying victory over Croatia in Zagreb.

And Heskey certainly feels Capello has so far stamped his mark on the squad, telling the Wigan Evening Post: "He has impressed me. He's been really good."

He added: "He is the kind of coach who will tell you if you've done something wrong, and it doesn't matter who you are. A lot of managers will pull you to one side to tell you that.

"Capello will tell you in front of everyone, which is fine by me."

Heskey, meanwhile, is prepared to sit tight at Wigan, insisting he is happy with the Latics despite speculation.

The 30-year-old striker was understood to be interesting Tottenham and Aston Villa before the transfer window closed at the end of last month.

Heskey is in the final season of his contract with Wigan, and seemingly prepared to let it run down.

That could force the club's hand when the window re-opens in January, with Heskey adding: "There's been speculation about my future.

"The manager and chairman both spoke to me last month about the situation. When I spoke with the chairman he said he'd had offers for me, but until I went to him and told him I wanted to leave, he wouldn't entertain anything. I had no intention of doing that, and that's where we left things."
