Football News

The biggest news coming out of Juventus today is not about Paul Pogba's world-record move to Manchester United. It's not even about Gonzalo Higuain's reported arrival from Napoli.

No, today is all about the 20-year-old defender Carlos Blanco Moreno. Never heard of him? To be honest, we didn't know much either. But after watching this, he's a name you're likely to remember forever.

The hot prospect may not be used to being in the limelight, instead playing backup to Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci, but the former Barcelona youngster threw down the gauntlet in a pre-season friendly against Melbourne Victory.

Playing in the International Champions Cup in Australia, Blanco lit up the friendly with a 50-yard screamer in the 58th minute. Spotting the goalkeeper off his line after a poor clearance, Blanco unleashed an eye-of-the-needle shot that went sailing into the net.

The game

That was the opening goal of the contest but Juventus would go on to concede an equaliser in the 83rd minute before finally going to penalties, as per the tournament's rules. The Italian champions lost 4-3 in that shootout.

So forget about Pogba and forget about Higuain. It seems all Juventus need to do to win a fifth straight Scudetto this season is to give the ball to a 20-year-old centre-back when he's around the halfway line.

Obvious really.
