Gonzalo Higuain is close to completing a move to Juventus after the Italian club agreed to pay the £78 million release clause in his Napoli contract.

The deal will mean that Arsenal and Arsene Wenger have missed out on yet another transfer target, but the eye-watering price for the 28-year-old could be the deciding factor in the Gunners' decision not to pursue the Argentinian.

The north London club have been admirers of the South American since his days with Real Madrid and it seems not a day went by in the past three years where the striker was not linked with a move to the Emirates.

Arsenal are in desperate need of a goalscorer; Takuma Asano has joined from J-League side Sanfrecce Hiroshima but he is hardly the big-name player they need to support Olivier Giroud.

It has become abundantly clear over the past three seasons that they cannot win the title with the France international as their leading man, and fans have been demanding the club put their hands in their pockets and acquire a 'world-class' forward.

With Higuain - one striker deemed worthy of that tag by fans - soon to become the third most expensive player in football history, there has been a lot of reaction from Arsenal supports on Twitter, and, it's fair to say, views are mixed.

The likes of Alexandre Lacazette and Mauro Icardi are still being rumoured as possible additions, but the transfer window is once again beginning to frustrate Arsenal fans. Where have we seen this before?
