Leicester City currently blocking Riyad Mahrez's move to Arsenal

On Saturday, there were unconfirmed reports in France suggesting that Arsenal had agreed a deal to sign Riyad Mahrez.

Gooners were obviously getting pretty excited at the news but, with no reliable sources confirming the transfer, it was unknown how much truth there was behind it all.

But now, Mohamed Bouhafsi - a reliable journalist from French outlet RMS Sport - has provided a massive update on the situation.

He dismisses all the reports that there is an agreement between Leicester and Arsenal. However, he does say that the player is interested in a move to the Gunners - although Leicester are blocking any deal at the moment.

Bouhafsi goes on to say that the Foxes have offered Mahrez a new contract but, in the event that the Algerian rejects it, they will sell him to the highest bidder.

Mahrez was instrumental in Leicester’s incredible Premier League triumph last season, scoring 17 goals and providing 12 assists. And the Algerian has already started to show people that he definitely isn’t a one-season wonder.

During Leicester’s friendly against Celtic on Saturday, the winger scored a beautiful goal as he curled the ball delightfully past Craig Gordon during the 1-1 draw.

This latest news of Mahrez leaving the King Power Stadium this summer differs dramatically from Claudio Ranieri’s comments earlier this week.

Speaking after Tuesday's 2-1 friendly win at Oxford, Ranieri said: "I think everybody here is happy. It's finished, the market has finished."

Asked specifically if he had spoken to Mahrez, Ranieri said: "Yes, he wants to stay."

Suddenly, it seems the Italian has a tough fight on his hands to hold onto the PFA Player of the Year with Arsenal extremely keen on the 25-year-old.
