The new era in WWE began tonight with the first episode of Monday Night RAW since last week's brand extension draft.

Now boasting unique talent like Seth Rollins, Finn Balor and Women's Champion Charlotte, RAW has made a strong start in the quest for ratings against Tuesday Night Smackdown.

Big changes

Right from the get go tonight, it was clear that the WWE have given RAW a huge make over with a new entrance theme, stage and even a throwback to the RAW of over 10 years ago.

As the night unfolded, there were changes aplenty across the entire RAW brand with a new champion crowned and a new championship announced to be claimed at Summer Slam.

The opening sequence revealed the new faces of Monday Night RAW and a brand new theme song, but the changes were only starting there.

It all started with the new stage and the very noticable change to the location of the RAW announce team who are once again up by the stage rather than at ringside.

The new announcer station is a throwback to the days of Jerry the King Lawler and Jim Ross who were also situated up by the stage.

There was another throwback to the RAW of yesteryear as the ring also adopted the once famous red ring ropes.

Arguably the biggest change however, was the announcement made by Commissioner Stephanie McMahon and General Manager Mick Foley at the top of the show.

The eight superstars proved to be Kevin Owens, Cesaro, Rusev, Chris Jericho, Sami Zayn, Sheamus and the two winners, Roman Reigns and Finn Balor.

The two would compete in the main event for the right to advance to Summer Slam with the chance to win the first ever WWE Universal Championship.

Balor would go on to win the main event clash and book his place at Summer Slam and frankly, give the fans the match they have wanted to see for a long time as the first ever NXT Champion will go up against the longest reigning NXT Champion.

New faces and new champions

While RAW itself received a complete make over, there were a lot of changes made inside the along with the main roster debut of Finn Balor.

We also saw the main roster debut of Nia Jax - another of RAW's draft picks from NXT and we also saw the long awaited return of Neville after he has been out injured for four months.

Argubly the biggest change however was in the Women's division where Charlotte's long reign as champion has finally come to an end.

Charlotte was put up against the woman who made her tap out 24 hours earlier at Battleground, Sasha Banks would see history repeat as she claimed her first WWE Women's Championship.
