Tonight saw the first episode of Smackdown since last week's WWE draft and only the second ever live episode of the show.

Like RAW just 24 hours before it, the show was filled with change as a new stage, theme song and commentary team were unveiled.

A new #1 contender

The show was filled with big announcements and while the imminent return of Shelton Benjamin will grab some headlines, the new #1 contender for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship was by far the biggest.

The show kicked off just like RAW had with the entire roster in the arena and shows commissioner and general manager in the ring to make a big announcement.

That announcement was of a six pack challenge to determine a new number one contender for Dean Ambrose's title at Summer Slam.

The pair announced that John Cena, AJ Styles, Bray Wyatt, Baron Corbin and Dolph Ziggler would all compete in the match with the sixth man to be decided by a battle royal.

Apollo Crews was the man to come out on top of the Battle Royal and joined the main event to find a new #1 contender.

The main event match itself was very interesting with the issues between Cena and Styles surfacing mid match.

Bray Wyatt was arguably the stand out candidate, but he wasn't able to come out victorious.

Ziggler will now advance to Summer Slam to challenge the Lunatic Fringe Dean Ambrose for his WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Ziggler was the unlikely choice in the match with stars like AJ Styles, John Cena and Bray Wyatt all arguably more favoured to advance.
