As the Paul Pogba transfer saga continues to rumble on, Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has now been asked to deliver his verdict on the prospect of lining up with the France international at Old Trafford.

Pogba, 23, departed Manchester in favour of a move to Italian giants Juventus back in 2012, but there's now every chance that he will return to the club in the immediate future.

Indeed, if reports are to be believed, the Red Devils could make Pogba the most expensive player in world football.

That's because it has been claimed that the United hierarchy will pay up to £100 million to secure the services of the player they once had at their disposal.

It's fair to say that it would be a remarkable transfer, but, at this stage, United fans are still patiently waiting on any updates.

Rooney reacts

What, then, does their captain make of the situation? Well, unsurprisingly, Rooney, who is set to feature for the Red Devils for the first time under Jose Mourinho against Galatasaray in Sweden on Saturday, has insisted that he can't talk about another team's player.

As you can see in the video below, Rooney stated: "Obviously I can't comment on that because he's not a Manchester United player and it's not fair to talk about another team's player."

United looking strong

It's certainly going to be an interesting period for all involved, but it will be interesting to see whether the United hierarchy finally manage to get the deal over the line in the coming days.

Pogba is clearly one of the best midfielders in world football and, despite the mega fee, would represent a remarkable coup for United.

Having already landed the trio of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Eric Bailly and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, there's every chance that the Red Devils will once again challenge towards the summit of the Premier League table.

In truth, it has been a long three years for the club, but things finally appear to be on the up. With Mourinho at the helm - and Pogba seemingly on his way - United should once again be a force to be reckoned with.
