The new era in the WWE provided us with some massive surprises last week, with Dolph Ziggler becoming the number one contender for the WWE Championship currently held by Dean Ambrose.
Not only that, Finn Balor secured himself a SummerSlam match against Seth Rollins for the WWE Universal Championship after he defeated Roman Reigns in the main event.
However, Monday Night Raw managed to pull out with another huge surprise, as Sasha Banks defeated Charlotte to become the new WWE Women’s Champion.

The result was welcomed by the fans as The Boss continues her run as the face of the women’s division. However, early rumours suggested that the reason for the title change was simply because Charlotte requested some time off, something which has been proven to be false.
Charlotte was back in action earlier this week at a live event, and PWInsider.com are reporting that she never requested any time off from the company as she’s also booked at house shows for the foreseeable future.
WhatCulture.com are reporting that the reason for the title changing hands was because they just wanted to do something surprising on the first episode of Raw following the brand split.
The WWE had already planned the Banks and Charlotte feud to last numerous months, and their next encounter takes place at SummerSlam with the championship on the line, and that’s where it was widely expected that Charlotte would be dropping the title.
The WWE apparently feel that Charlotte has laid a strong foundation with the championship as she’s held it for quite some time now, and they’re open to switching it more often.
There’s no fear of either woman dropping out of the picture anytime soon, though. It’s said that they both have strong backing from the higher-ups in the company, with Vince McMahon a huge fan of Charlotte’s work as a heel, while it’s no secret that Triple H sees Sasha as the face of the women’s division
